State Sen. Andy Harris: Campaign photoELKTON - The Cecil County Republican Central Committee held their annual chicken dinner on Monday at the Cecil Count Fair. Volunteering at the event was state Sen. Andy Harris (R-Cockeysville), who helped serve chicken dinners to attendees.
Harris told PolitickerMD.com that events such as this helped lots with the campaign.
“People expect that they’re gonna see the person that they vote for congress and this is where ya meet ‘em - at the county fairs,” Harris said, after hours of serving food. “One hundred five days from now when they look back they say, ‘yeah I saw him. He was at the fair.’”
Harris pointed to extensive campaigning throughout the district to annotate his electability.
“I think some people expect that the candidate – they should – expect the candidate’s gonna be everywhere in the district. They’re gonna show interest in every part of the district and that’s what we’ve done," Harris said. "One end to the other, we’ve been in every part of the district – fairs and chambers of commerce, out meeting people and I think that’s why in November we’ll be elected.”
When asked if he would be going to Tuesday’s fundraiser for presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain, Harris replied: “Absolutely! He’s my candidate.”
Harris believed McCain would do well in MD-1 come November. “He’ll win the 1st Congressional District, absolutely,” he said.
Also volunteering time at the event was Republican Jim Mullin, who is running for Cecil County Commissioner in the 1st district. Mullin said campaigning at events such as the chicken dinner help to get “some face time with people, talk with people, shake some hands.”
Harris is currently running against state's Attorney Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville) for Maryland’s 1st Congressional District seat. MD-1 includes 12 of the 24 counties in the state, which encompasses all of the Eastern Shore and portions of Harford, Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties.

Amateurs Versus Professionals...
Actually, Republicans don't do corruption very well. They tend to eff it up royally.
Democrats, on the other hand, are the masters at being corrupt and holding onto power. William Jefferson, Al Mollohan, John Murtha, Dan Rosentkowski, and so on and so on and so on.
Truly pros.
Andy and I are close. He
Andy and I are close. He sends me letters all the time updating me about his campaign. And, as a valued member of his campaign team, I already know the answer to this charge...
The LCV is just a liberal front group for the Democratic party in Maryland. And those ratings are based on votes that have nothing to do with the Bay.
White lies
...but he is anything but honest.
His response to candidate questionnaire from the League of Women Voters:
"Environment - The Chesapeake Bay is a treasure to all Marylanders. We need to bring together all stakeholders including watermen, farmers, sportsmen, local and national elected officials, and individual citizens to bring about common-sense solutions to cleaning up our bay – AS I HAVE SUPPORTED IN MY NINE YEARS IN THE STATE SENATE.”
Andy Harris has a lifetime 9% rating from the Maryland League of Conservation Voters, which ranks him 6th worst in the entire general assembly, including freshman representatives.
Stating that he has supported the environment and the Chesapeake throughout his 9 years in the state senate may not be an outright lie, but it certainly is not an accurate depiction of reality.
I wouldn’t trust Andy Harris as far as I could throw him.
Over a decade of GOP
Over a decade of GOP domination in the district should be proof enough.
But if that isn't good enough for you...
I know Andy Harris. He is a good, honest man who wouldn't lie. If Andy Harris says it isn't competitive, it isn't.
BWAHHAHAHA
How does one prove the race is not competitive without releasing poll results?
Currie is clearly in
Currie is clearly in trouble, and I have no sympathy for him. Dixon is probably not too far behind....what little we know for sure about her situation stinks to high hell.
I have no problem with CVH.
Corrupt individuals is not limited to one party. It's just that the GOP has mastered it so well, while the Dems that go down that path are purely amateurs.
Only the desperate release
Only the desperate release their poll numbers. Think Pipkin in the primary.
Bartlett not releasing his poll numbers; Harris not releasing his...
Barlett not debating;
Harris should not debate either...
It's just the way it is when a race isn't competitive.
GOP Scumbag Hack?
You mean like Uly Currie? Or Chris Van Hollen? or Sheila Dixon?
Somebody get me a napkin...
…because I just snorted milk through my nose while laughing hysterically at the following reasoning:
“And they are keeping the poll numbers under wraps because they want to maintain some sort of enthusiasm for this race through the rest of the summer. If they showed the numbers, nobody would pay attention and they'd have a hard time getting people to donate or work on their behalf.”
If they are so far ahead as to declare victory in July, why are they concerned about maintaining enthusiasm through the rest of the summer?
Wouldn’t a poll demonstrating this alleged insurmountable lead discourage donations and involvement in Kratovil’s campaign, because it would signify a lost cause?
HARDY HAR HAR. Your reasoning is laughable.
I hear Conan is looking for
I hear Conan is looking for some new writers when he take over for Leno. You guys could be a great team.
And as far as Bartlett goes, any chance that he would ever have debated is now out the window, as another sc*mbag GOP hack gets caught with his hand in the till.
And although Jennifer has little chance, before yesterday he had no chance. If Bartlett is indicated for tax fraud - not an unlikely prospect - she might be Cinderella on election night.
Only a rich out of touch PG
Only a rich out of touch PG Democrat would say that 50k is "immaterial". And they are keeping the poll numbers under wraps because they want to maintain some sort of enthusiasm for this race through the rest of the summer. If they showed the numbers, nobody would pay attention and they'd have a hard time getting people to donate or work on their behalf.
Harris wins this is a landslide - 20 to 30 points. Easy.
Meekins himself said the race was already over in the Cecil Whig on Friday. He's already claimed to have won the "Super Bowl".
Liberals - nothing to look at here, time to move on to something else...For Christ's sake, the Bartlett race is going to be more competitive than this one.
After Andy Cluck-Cluck pays
After Andy Cluck-Cluck pays hisself back there is about a $50k difference in cash on hand, which is immaterial, at best.
In the poll where responders have heard of both candidates, Kratovil leads by 7. http://politicker.com/poll-shows-harris-leading-nine-points-cd-1-kratovi...
Harris hasn't released the results of his poll. You know if he was doing well, Little Chrissie Meekins would be shouting it from the rooftops.
Harris has no credibility, nor do you from this incredibly lackluster response.
Finish the cherry Kool-Aid and start on the grape.
The only reason Harris won't debate in each county is because he knows he will be whipped worse than Big Brown in the Belmont Stakes.
Harris shouldn't debate
Harris shouldn't debate Kratovil. Kratovil trails badly in money raised and in the polls. Harris is too far out in front and shouldn't give Kratovil any credibility.
Speaking of chickens, will
Speaking of chickens, will Andy ever come out of his roost to debate Kratovil? If so, where and how often?
That ought to be interesting.
