State's Attorney Frank KratovilKratovil Campaign Manager Tim McCann dismissed the results of a Harris campaign internal poll which showed Harris carrying a sizeable lead in the 1st Congressional District.
The poll showed state Sen. Andy Harris (R-Cockeysville) with a 16 point lead over state's Attorney Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville).
“As Andy’s campaign manger himself said a few months back, ‘Internal polls can be skewed one way or the other.’ Our internal numbers paint a different picture so I'm not particularly worried about this small-sample poll,” wrote McCann in an email to PolitickerMD.com.
“It is telling, though, that he rushed into the field with this poll the same day he had to publicly disclose that he was struggling to hit his fundraising goals,” he added. “Talk about being desperate to change the subject. The real story is that Frank Kratovil and Andy Harris finished the second quarter only $50,000 apart in cash-on-hand before Andy’s last-minute loan.”
The Federal Election Commission Tuesday released both campaigns’ second fundraising quarter reports. Harris lead with approximately $150,000 more cash on hand than Kratovil. However, McCann referenced a last minute $100,000 loan made to the campaign from Harris himself.
McCann continued: “The only poll that really matters is the one on Election Day, and the tight fundraising race makes it clear that we're going to have the resources we need to make our case to the voters and let them decide who best represents the values of the First District.”
Harris and Kratovil are currently competing for Maryland’s 1st congressional district seat. The already tight race has become even more heated since last Tuesday’s FEC filings. In addition, Kratovil released his energy plan last week, which highly criticized his opponent. The new internal poll from the Harris campaign only elevates the competitiveness of the race.

Illegal Aliens
I ask the question, I know that Harris has worked to get the aliens out of baltimore but I have not herd any thing lately, when and if he gets to washington will he forget all about it,?? and kratovil what will he stand for, why not tell us, the illegal aliens would like to know,, Waiting

Or, very simply put...the money is May paid for the poll that came out in July...you think polls happen overnight?
Poll
He paid a pollster in May. This poll is from July. We won't know for sure until we get 3rd quarter finance reports, but it would seem as if there's another poll out there that is not being released.
From the non-partisan
From the non-partisan "CampaignDiaries.com":
"...it is somewhat surprising that Harris has taken the step of releasing a poll in which he is as low as 44% in a district that voted for Bush with 62% of the vote. Not to mention that there is reason to be skeptical of this internal poll, whose sample is only 300 voters... [I]t says something about the GOP’s anxieties over its open seats that this survey is considered good news by the Republican candidate."
Polls This Early?
This EARLY??!!!
So I guess we can discount that much-touted mantra about Frank Kratovil supposedly leading among voters who know both candidates, then?
See, I'm willing to admit that the election season will get into a much fuller swing after the national party conventions at the end of August, but with just over 100 days left until the election, this is hardly an early poll.
It's a poll. It's an internal poll. It's an internal poll you dared the campaign to release.
They released it, it shows your guy trailing in key metrics. Just admit that, admit that perhaps you were a bit hasty in your daring and that you were wrong in your predictions, and let's move on.
PE, you have it all right. I
PE, you have it all right.
I made a call to the Kratovil office here on the Eastern Shore and told them to take the rest of the summer off, that it was a pointless sojourn on which they have embarked.
Andy's pollster is worth every penny he received, polling those 300 people. And since the polls this early are always right on target, FK should just enjoy the rest of this summer and dream of what could have been.
He Was Referring To The Earlier Polls, Ms. Drew...
NOS -
McCann was referring to the earlier internal polls of the Kratovil campaign. Internal polls whose questions haven't been released (as far as I know). But that's the poll the DCCC probably relied on when determining whether or not to give money to Kratovil in their most-recent round of disbursements.
They didn't, which was an indication to many of us watching this race that things weren't quite as rosy for Kratovil as JL, Henry, Lion King, and others might have you believe.
Spin, Spin, Spin, JL...
Note how JL tries to deflect away from the deficiencies in the Kratovil campaign by focusing attention on the Florida polling for the Presidential race. It won't work, JL.
It's July, and a quarter of the voters haven't heard of Frank Kratovil. Half the voters have no opinion of them. Let's assume that we give Frank the entire benefit of the margin of error (which you know we can't, but let's anyway), and that's still nearly a fifth of voters who haven't heard of him, and just over 40% who have no opinion of him).
Harris is trouncing Kratovil in the favorables - with 87% of the voters having heard of him. His unfavorables are better than Kratovil as well.
You're telling me that such a good-looking, nice, earnest guy like Frank Kratovil can't get above 14% in his favorables? Hell, assuming the entire margin of error again, he can't get above 20%?
Two days ago, you were practically daring the Harris campaign to release their internal polling. Now that they have, _THIS_ is your response?
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I don't think either side
I don't think either side should be ready to either pop the cork or pack it in just yet.
Just about 104 days ago, McCain led Obama in Florida by 10 in the Rasmussen poll.
Now Obama leads by 1.
If you would have told me that Rasmussen would ever have Obama up in Florida I would have laughed at your optimism (assuming you're a Dem, of course). We're still 100 or so days away, and anything can happen in Florida and in the First District of Maryland.
Florida Trends: McCain vs. Obama

Sorry, guys, can't use
Sorry, guys, can't use Meekins' words against him this time. Check out Wally Edge's posting of the questions and raw data. Franky K didn't release his questions from the poll in May, now did he? Releasing the questions kind of kills the argument that the poll was skewed.

To Nancy's sister - see above posting. Kratovil revealed the poll information in May!
That we know of
Polls that we know of
Nancy
1. Those are two different polls. This poll was taken in July. Harris also paid a pollster back in May. We have yet to see that.
2. Polls are expensive. Kratovil has done one so far and Harris only two. They run about 10 grand so its not like the campaigns do polls willy-nilly.
Leave the detective work to the younger Drew and stick to the talking points.
How soon we
How soon we forget...

Kratovil released his
Kratovil released his internals in April when Harris was at 43 and Kratovil around 35.
Where are Kratovil's Internal Poll Numbers?
The Kratovil supporters made great hay when it was revealed that Harris had internal poll numbers that it wasn't releasing. Then they tried to take down the poll by saying the sample wasn't big enough.
Now it's revealed that Kratovil has internal poll numbers which show something different...
So, Mr. McCann, where are they?
