It's safe to say that Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler (D-Bethesda) isn't interested in becoming the district of Maryland's next U.S. attorney.
Gansler co-chaired Maryland for Obama along with U.S. Rep Elijah Cummings (D-Baltimore) and recently announced he will be an advisor to the Department of Justice for President-elect Barack Obama's transition team.
Gansler has been rumored as a possible candidate for U.S. attorney and other federal offices. But his political director, Antigonie Davis, played down the rumors.
"He likes his job. He's gonna stay serving Marylanders," Davis told PolitickerMD.com.
Gansler is heavily rumored to be eyeing the governorship. If Gov. Martin O'Malley (D-Baltimore) is re-elected in 2010, the seat will open in 2014.
Meanwhile, Stuart Simms and Glenn Ivey have been frequent mentions. Ivey has not officially ruled out the idea, but doesn't seem to be actively pursuing the job either. Simms could not be reached for comment.
Former assistant U.S. attorney for the district of Maryland, Paul Tiao, is interested in running. Tiao was also a member of the Maryland for Obama leadership team.
