The campaign of First District Republican nominee Andy Harris responded to the GOP support Frank Kratovil received this morning in Kent County.
The Democrat from neighboring Queen Anne's County was joined by Republican Kent Commissioner Roy Crow and several members of Rep. Wayne Gilchrest's staff in a display of his bipartisan appeal.
But Harris campaign manager Chris Meekins disagrees.
"Kratovil now has the support of Governor O'Malley and some disgruntled staff looking to keep their jobs," he said. "I'd call it bi-polar support, not bi-partisan."

Harris, Meekins, and Company
I understand that Meekins and other young Harris staffers have made quite a few enemies, including some very powerful ones. Apparently, the wunderkind Meekins actualy threatend to defeat county exec Dave Craig in Harford County if he continued to support Gilchrest in the primary. There was some kind of altercation at the Baltimore County Lincoln dinner.
I think Craig and a whole bunch of Harford County GOP politicians supported Gilchrest. It sounds like Craig is playing nice with Harris on the surface, but will be out for blood down the line. He is the guy who came back after being beaten by Delegate James Harkins. If I was the Harris people, I would be watching Craig and his people real close.
You also have John Leopold in Anne Arundel who might like to be a congressman in the first district some day. He also backed Gilchrest.
Some Baltimore GOP central committee members are also irritated with Meekins and another young staffer named Swartz because they are so heavy handed. This comment from Meekins just proves that he acts like a child. It is unbelevable that Harris would let Meekins talk with any press at all. There is also some grumbling in the Cecil Co. GOP too. Something about Meekins being a creepy guy.
I think a lot of this might stem from Harris himself not being well liked personally by a lot of the GOP power base. He did real well with GOP primary voters but I wonder how much the party leaders are going to be there for him now. After all, he is a doctor from New York who is a state senator. That is like the triple crown of ego and arrogance.
It will be really interesting to see how the GOP muckety mucks play toghether over the next few months. We probably won't see a whole bunch of overt crossing over, but I bet there will be a lot of behind the scenes shots at Harris.
It looks like the angry Gilchrest folks may get together with GOP folks who are disgusted with some Harris staffers and cause some real problems.
Cooties too?
Nice 8th grade campaign Chris is running there. What's next? Republicans for Kratovil have cooties?
My ten year old cousin knows
