State Republicans gathered for the 18th annual Red, White and Blue fundraiser last night in Linthicum, the party's major fundraiser for the year.
Justin Ready, the party's executive director, told PolitickerMD.com that roughly 400 people attended the event. He said the MDGOP expected to raise "close to $100,000" for the evening.
"This is a big improvement from last year," Ready said. "We're moving forward."
Several big-name Republicans, including former Gov. Bob Ehrlich, former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, and state Sen. and congressional nominee Andy Harris were in attendance.
"It's a chance to launch into the summertime and to raise money for the party," Ready said of the dinner.
"We also get a chance to thank supporters," Ready added.
Former U.S. State Department official and Maryland House Delegate Ellen Sauerbrey served as honorary chairwoman of the event, while Wayne Simmons, a former CIA operative, delivered the keynote address. MDGOP Chairman Jim Pelura hosted.
The evening also included a tribute to President George W. Bush.
The controversy surrounding allegations of personal problems leveled against Senate Minority Leader David Brinkley (R-New Market) was not addressed during the dinner.
