Van Hollen, state Democrats congratulate Edwards

U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Kensington) the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) issued a congratulatory statement today in honor of U.S. Rep.-elect Donna Edwards (D-Fort Washington), who was elected to represent the people of Maryland's 4th Congressional District, yesterday.

"On behalf of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, I congratulate Congresswoman-elect Donna Edwards on her victory and look forward to welcoming her to the House," Van Hollen said.

"Congresswoman-elect Edwards has spent her career fighting tirelessly to bring hope and opportunity for Maryland's working families," he added. "That same spirit and commitment to working for change will make her an outstanding addition to our Democratic Caucus and a powerful voice for a new direction in Washington."

Maryland Democratic Party Chairman Michael Cryor also praised Edwards, saying, "This is the first of what promises to be many remarkable achievements for the indefatigable Donna Edwards. As the first African-American woman elected to Congress from Maryland she is making history while remaking Congress in the image of all that is America. Equally important, the 4th district - indeed all of Maryland - now has another voice for progress, justice and change in the nation's capital."

"One down, seven to go," Cryor said of Edwards' election and the party's platform, "Make it 8 in '08," a reference to the states' eight congressional districts.

"This is a unique time in our state and in our nation," Cryor said. "Maryland's Democrats, Republicans and Independents will join hands to put Sen. Barack Obama in the White House and send eight Maryland Democrats to the people's house."

With Edwards' victory behind them, Cryor said the party would turn their attention to electing Frank Kratovil (D-Stevensville) and Jennifer Dougherty (D-Frederick) in Maryland's 1st and 6th Congressional Districts."

"We aren't fooling around here," Cryor said. "It's time to put our nation back on the right track once again."

country over party?

brady,I think you pretty much sound like Van HOllen in your partisan defense...

You, just like van holen would much rather put our almighty Democratic party over our country...

I am plain sick of our party, we are NO better than Republicans! YOu know why? We get caught up in our damn agendas and sell the people out, we used to be the party of the people, now we are the party of empty suits and nancy pelosi...

What team are you on POD?

They may be worthess in their representation, but they are democrats! The alternative is (guess what) republicans. Time to get on the right (left) side of the fence POD and join a winning team. I knew that James was a lost cause standing out in right field swating flies. Bailey is from the Ron Paul camp too and does not pose a threat. I dont know any of the other republicans. The two repubs that make me nervous are Harris and maybe remotely Hudson, both established doctors. Harris/Kratovil is close, but I think Kratovil will edge Harris. Hudson is a newcomer, and ordinarily I'd blow him off, but I looked at his internet site and his record is impeccable! He also leans left on some of the issues. Van Hollen should not take him for granted or he might get surprised.

Thats my 2 cents.

Does Rep Van Hollen ever do anything on behalf of his district?

Honestly, this is the MARYLAND politicker website... not the DCCC page..

How come i NEVER see Chris Van Hollen's name doing something for MARYLAND's 8TH DISTRICT????

The answer: He doesn't care about his district, we have so many problems here and yet he's gallavanting every where else but here!

Chris, Donna, and Cryor: Some of us Democrats are tired of you partisan hacks and want to get stuff done! So don't hold your breath with that "8 in 08 comment"

As Senator Ted Kennedy said at AU a few months ago "I FEEL A CHANGE IN THE AIR!!!"
