McCain-Romney showdown at Lincoln Day Dinner

UPDATE: McCain's Maryland campaign director Jim Shalleck has just confirmed to PolitickerMD.com that the candidate will be at the dinner by 7:00 p.m.

As Sen. John McCain is scheduled to make a 3:00 p.m. speech to the 2008 CPAC conference in Washington D.C., rumors are circulating that he will make a surprise appearance at the Baltimore County Republicans' Lincoln Day Dinner this evening in Halethorpe.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had earlier confirmed his appearance and is listed as the keynote speaker, though that could go sour if the likely GOP nominee were to swoop in.

Other evidence that he will show is strong: Mark Halperin of The Page highlights that McCain cancelled his weekend trip to Europe in order to "wrap this thing up as quickly as possible."
