Mr. Schmore,
Thank you for comments regarding my appreciation to Mr. Kratovil for his attendance at the Annual Volunteer Firemen’s Memorial Ceremony in Ocean City. I am however; somewhat surprised at your suggestion that I thought Mr. Harris was anti-firefighter. While I am not familiar with Mr. Harris’s support, or lack thereof, for the Public Safety Community; it is clear he did not attend the Memorial Ceremony. I am certain both Candidates record’s regarding public safety issues will be an issue for future discussion and debate.
Regarding your reference to me as a “bona fide fireman”; it is the tone of such a negative comment that fosters the degradation of the political process and freedom that those of us, including Mr. Harris, fought to preserve in service to our Country. I, as did many others, served in the military, grew up in a working class neighborhood and also worked hard; however I do not disparage anyone who did not. It is the character and integrity of the person that I have always considered important.
Let me close by saying that as a Firefighter with more than 40 years of service to the citizens of Maryland, I intend to research the history and examine the voting records of both Candidates for the First Congressional District. The results of which should lead to a responsible on-line discussion with you and others regarding issues of importance to the Fire Service Family.

Isn't it funny to hear a 'bona fide' fireman post above about how Andy Harris must be so anti-firefighter? This kind of low down dirty politics is exactly where Frank Kratovil comes from. He is the son of a guy known locally as a Godfather of Prince George's County politics. He had every iota paid for in his life.
Bang Andy all you want on policies, but the guy served in the military, came from a working class neighborhood, and earned his way to where he is now. Frank's had everything handed to him in life.
And lastly, who proudly runs around saying they have the strong support and endorsement of Martin O'Malley?
Maryland State Firemen's Annual Convention
Mr. Harris was only seen during the parade on the last day of the Maryland State Firemen's Annual Convention. It is sad that he, or his paid staff, determined that it was not necessary for him to attend the Annual Memorial Service and pay his respect to those Maryland Firefighters and Paramedics who paid the supreme sacrifice and "died in the line of duty" during the last year. Mr. Kratovil was not only seen at the Memorial Service, but also seen at the Opening Ceremonies and the Family Picnic. During a period of 3 days, he was often seen listening to Firefighters and Paramedics who were sharing their thoughts about issues that impact the Volunteer Fire Service Community. Mr. Kratovil, thank you for spending time with us and honoring those who "died in the line of duty". These were individuals who asked for nothing more than the opportunity to serve their communities.
Harris is aggressive?
If you spent the week with the Firemen last week in Ocean City, you can tell that for all Harris is paying his staff, he isn't getting very far.
Harris completely ignored Maryland's volunteerfirst responders. I guess he doesn't like volunteers, or at least has to pay people to help him. Mr. Kratovil does not need to pay people to help him with his campaign. The public likes him.
Of course, now that Rick Meehan is on the run because Harris wants drilling off of OC, he is going to have to pay even more people to help him. I hope his contributors understand this. This race is not about money, despite what the rich Baltimore County doctor thinks. It is about competent leaders in government.
