Pelosi dishes on the '76 presidential primary

Pelosi's new book: To be released July 29Pelosi's new book: To be released July 29In the teaser for her upcoming book, publisher Random House has audio portions of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi talking about getting Jerry Brown to participate in Maryland's 1976 presidential primary -- what she calls the "pivotal" action in her life's arc from "homemaker to House Speaker." She even gives a shout out to the vaunted machine of then-Baltimore County Exec. Ted Venetoulis.

For more than thirty years, the 1976 Democratic race had the largest primary turnout in state history with 592,000 ballots cast -- a total only surmounted recently by the 2008 presidential contest.

Brown cruised past Jimmy Carter, 49 percent to 37.
