Cryor: ‘We are indeed a unified party’

Michael CryorMichael CryorDENVER – Maryland Democratic Party chair Mike Cryor says the goal of this week’s Democratic National Convention was to unite the party - not to target Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

“Our business frankly was to demonstrate that we could work together. We have some healing to do,” Cryor told PolitickerMD.com at the Renaissance Denver Hotel. He says there’s still plenty of time to “go after Senator McCain in a very aggressive way.”

“We are indeed a unified party,” he added. “We’re not always going to agree on everything. We may not always agree to the point that we may want.”

Glendening says Democrats should hit McCain even harder

DENVER – Former Gov. Parris Glendening (D) says Democratic speakers at the convention didn’t hit presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain as hard as they should have.

“Personally I would have like to seen even harder,” he told PolitickerMD.com.

He added, however, that Monday’s speakers weren’t the right people to be taking the shots. Instead, he pointed to Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.), Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and former president Bill Clinton as the best figures to throw the punches.

Michael SteeleMichael Steele

Yesterday on the Fox News Channel, former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele (R) weighed in on the Rev. Jesse Jackson's vulgar, unwittingly public comments about his frustration with Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)

Jackson, having been miked shortly before appearing on Fox News on Wednesday, made the comments while unaware that he was being recorded.

"See, Barack's been, um, talking down to black people on this faith based. he said. 'I want to cut his [EXPLETIVE DELETED] off. Barack -- he's talking down to black people."

Jackson offered an apology for the statement when he learned that Fox News would be airing it.

Appearing opposite of the Rev. Al Sharpton on the 'Hannity and Colmes' progam, Steele said that while he feels really bad for Jackson, who he described as "a good friend," he added, " The real question is why did he think that?"
