Gov. Martin O'Malley and Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.): In 2006Saturday, Gov. Martin O'Malley and Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown praised their favored candidate, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY), as she dropped out of the presidential race and joined her in throwing their support to Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).
"We have been honored and proud to support Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign," Brown and O'Malley said in a brief joint statement, "but now a hard-fought and history-making primary contest with record turnout has come to an end."
"We must now come together as a party for the common good of our country's future to address the critical issues facing our nation."
"Today, we enthusiastically declare our support of U.S. Senator Barack Obama to become the next President of the United States, and will do everything in our power to make sure that Maryland leads our way forward in November to 'the country we carry in our hearts.'"
