Yesterday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee dropped another $18 million on 20 House races.
While this push mostly included those who had been passed over for the $35 million ad-buy, yet again, First district Democrat Frank Kratovil – the would-be delegation-mate of the powerful DCCC Chair Chris Van Hollen and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer – was not selected.
He and Gary Trauner, who is again seeking the Wyoming at-large seat after falling 1,000 votes short in 2006, are the only members of the DCCC’s ‘Red-to-Blue’ roster who have not had an ad buy in their districts this cycle.
One theory is that these initial buys are taking place in media markets with lots of hot races, and the national organizations are seeking to take advantage of the lock in ad rates before they go up in the fall. On the opposite end of the spectrum, places without competitive Senate, presidential or gubernatorial races – like, oh, say, Maryland or Wyoming – will have lots of cheap political units available come the fall.
By law, the campaigns have no input into what the DCCC does with its money in buys like this, so they can only guess as to what the rationale is. “There will be plenty more ad buys yet to come.” Kratovil campaign manager Tim McCann said.
“It's no secret this was one of the later-breaking races to be added to the Red to Blue list, but as Frank's fundraising continues to grow there is going to be an increased focus on the pickup opportunity here in the First District.”
Who was the last governor who had served less than two years when he was tapped for the vice presidential nomination? >

Math too?
We know you Harris supporters have reading trouble, but math too? Harris has rasied over 2 million dollars this cycle, and had 50k more COH before he loaned himself money. That's 1/40th of his total money, quite a small difference in the big scheme of things. There's just so many close races in this country that the traditional outside sources of money have to spread their resources out more. Which means it's going to be more focused on what the people of the first district want. And when even prominent Republicans like Joe Albero make comments like "Fortunately, all those wealthy people who live out of state and are funding Andy Harris's campaign can't vote in Maryland. Marylanders of the First District need vote for Frank Kratovil, who will represent the people of Maryland"... wow. The people that are following the race now are breaking for Kratovil, Democrats and Republicans. Those who have not yet will once they see the difference.
Andy Harris is not
Andy Harris is not outraising Frank Kratovil by "a ton". Harris had raised only $50,000 more than Kratovil before Harris gave his campaign a $100,000 loan.
The CFG didn't have to give
The CFG didn't have to give money to Harris because he's outraising Kratovil by a ton...also, both CFG and the DCCC don't want to waste money on a race that seems pretty much over. Van Hollen thought he would move Kratovil into Red to Blue thinking it might help sway some people. When he saw it had no effect, may have even hurt him, they bailed out...the handwriting is on the wall Frankie-Boy.
Hmm..
Funny how Wally does a story on this and not how the Club for Growth made a similar move giving money to Alaska of all places and not to AndÝ.Hopefully this election will be decided by first district voters. And more and more are realizong the candidate of the 1st district is Frank Kratovil ... Just ask Joe Albero
