Weldon walks away from GOP

The AP reports:

Declaring "our political system is broken," Del. Richard Weldon said he switched his voter registration from Republican to unaffiliated because he doesn't want intensifying party politics to interfere with his policy decisions.

Weldon, who made the announcement today in Frederick, said he decided to leave the GOP after more than a year of extensive soul-searching. Weldon already has said he will not seek re-election in 2010.

In case you haven't noticed, the ability of the GOP to really pass legislation in Annapolis is seriously thwarted by their size and some bitter partisanship. With Weldon's separation from that, I think the majority Democrats will be very willing to look at the smart legislation that he has a reputation for creating with a very curious and open mind.

In other words, I think you are 100% wrong.

Decency

Rick Weldon is one of the most thoughtful, decent guys in the legislature. Good for him in making this difficult decision. Its not as if his party status brought him any power in Annapolis; he will be even more effective without the 800 lb R around his neck

Only 1/2 an idiot.

He got it right that the political system is broken. Sorry he walked away instead of fighting to correct it. Or maybe he will in some other fashion. It's been broken since the Kennedy assasination if not before, and now they have the footage from the grassy knoll showing it to anyone who stands to oppose the corrupt powers that run this disgraced country. The coup of George Bush's election made it all out in public and this fat happy electorate just wants to keep their status quo.

What an idiot. Now, even more ineffective and buffoonish.
